Site audience and purpose

This web site summarises the Renewables Advisory Board (RAB) provides advice to Government on a wide range of renewable energy issues.

It aims to develop mutual understanding of the key issues for the industry - like technology development, barriers to market penetration, and export enhancement - both in the short term and over the next 20 years.

As an aid to finding the information you want, we have provided a search engine

Searching

You can search the text files on the RAB website by using the Search engine located at the top right hand side of each page. Please enter the word or words to look for in the box, then start the search by pressing the icon

Page layout - finding your way around; printing

Pages on this site have been designed to be compatible on a variety of browsers and platforms. They are designed to display best with your monitor set at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels (or higher).

On each page you can see which subject area of the site you are in by looking at the main heading in black (the site's major subject areas are listed on the tabs displayed across the top of the screen). Immediately below this heading you will find a number a drop down list of links to key pages with supplementary information related to the main topic. If this feature is disabled by the users system for security reasons, alternative navigation to these dropdown pages is available .

Downloading files or documents

In the case of relatively large files, or files that you need to work with (such as Word or Excel documents, or interactive .PDF forms), you are advised to save the file directly onto your own computer rather than opening it via your web browser. On a PC, and using the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser right-click on the link, select "Save Target As", and choose a suitable location on your PC; using the Netscape web browser right-click on the link and choose "Save Link As".

File Formats

This site principally uses files of the following five types (Users will need to have the correct software loaded on their machines to make full use of the information available.):

HTML
HTML is the basic file format used on the Internet. It is our policy to make as much information as possible in this format. Sometimes, for technical reasons, some data may be made available in the following alternative formats.

PHP
PHP files contain code that is parsed by the PHP compiler on our servers and returned as HTML.

PDF
Documents marked are saved in Portable Document Format (PDF). To read them you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader. The Acrobat Reader software is available for downloading free of charge.

Viewers with visual difficulties may find it useful to investigate services provided by Adobe to improve the accessibility of Adobe Acrobat documents.

DOC
DOC is the file type for documents created using Microsoft WORD. This is a widely used word processing package.

XLS
XLS is the file type for documents created using Microsoft EXCEL. This is a widely used spreadsheet package.

PPT
PPT is the file type for documents created using Microsoft Powerpoint. This is a widely used presentation package and is used.
